Music Wallpapers on macOS 14 and 15

Keep Apple Music and Spotify open at once and the wallpaper follows whichever is playing. Macs on macOS 14 and 15 get music wallpapers on the desktop too.
Nobody listens to music the tidy way. You leave Apple Music open, start something in Spotify, pause one, come back to the other.
Wallper keeps up with that now. Both can be open at the same time, and the wallpaper follows whichever one is actually playing. Pause it and the wallpaper switches to the other. Stop both and your own wallpaper comes back on its own.
Quick answer: Music wallpapers no longer need the newest macOS. On macOS 14 and 15 you get them on the desktop. The lock screen version still needs macOS 26 or later, because older systems cannot show a moving lock screen at all.
Why Older Macs Only Get the Desktop
Until now this feature needed macOS 26, and Macs on anything older got nothing at all.
That was the wrong trade. On macOS 14 and 15 you now get the music wallpaper on your desktop, updating with every track, and your own wallpapers come straight back when the music stops.
It is off until you turn it on, in Settings. The lock screen half genuinely cannot work on those versions of macOS, and that is Apple's limit rather than ours. Which version does what is listed in the supported versions FAQ.
Setting a Lock Screen Wallpaper Is Quicker Now
The first time you put a wallpaper on your lock screen, Wallper has to get it ready, and that takes a moment. It now remembers the ones it has already prepared, so the second time you pick a wallpaper you have used before, it appears more or less at once.
Flicking pause and play quickly no longer confuses it either, and on a desk with more than one monitor each screen keeps and restores its own wallpaper. If you run several displays, different wallpaper on each monitor covers that properly.
Your Own Videos
Two small annoyances are gone. Videos you have liked show up the moment you open My Media instead of after you like something else, and the little preview images load properly instead of about half the time.
