Do I need an account to publish a wallpaper?
It depends on where you publish from.
From the macOS app, no account is needed. The app is already paired with a hardware identifier, so authorship is bound to the device that uploads the file — drop the files, add your author name, and submit.
From the website, publishing needs a free Wallper account. There is no hardware identifier in a browser, so the account is what ties the wallpaper to you: it credits your name on every gallery card, and it is how you ask for a wallpaper to be taken down later. You can sign in with Google, GitHub or a one-time email code, and you only need it at the moment you publish — dropping files and filling in the details works signed out.
How long does the review take?
Every submission goes through a manual review queue. In normal conditions wallpapers are processed within 24–48 hours after upload, often faster during business days.
Reviewers verify that the file meets the technical specs (resolution, codec, loop length, frame rate), that the loop is stable on macOS, and that the content does not violate copyright or our community guidelines. You will be notified as soon as the wallpaper is approved or rejected.
Can I publish AI-generated wallpapers?
AI-generated wallpapers are welcome, provided that you have the right to publish and distribute the model output and that the model itself was used within its license terms.
We may ask for additional context — the prompt, model name, or workflow — to confirm authorship. Submissions that copy the style or likeness of a specific living artist or brand without permission will be rejected.
What if my file is bigger than 300 MB?
Wallper limits each individual file to 300 MB so playback stays smooth on every Mac. If your master is heavier, re-encode it to HEVC (H.265) with a target bitrate between 15 and 40 Mbps for 4K. Most 10–30 second 4K loops compress to 20–80 MB at this bitrate without any visible quality loss.
For 1080p loops, 8–15 Mbps is usually more than enough. Tools like HandBrake, Compressor, or `ffmpeg -c:v libx265 -tag:v hvc1` produce App Store-friendly HEVC files that Wallper plays natively.
Will I get credited for my wallpapers?
Yes. The author name you provide on upload is displayed on every gallery card and detail page where your wallpaper appears, both on the website and inside the macOS app.
Users can tap your name to see all wallpapers you have published. Optional profile links (portfolio, X, Instagram) are also shown so people can find you.
Can I remove a published wallpaper later?
If you want to remove a published wallpaper, contact support@wallper.app from the email or device that uploaded it. We will take the wallpaper down from the gallery so it stops being discoverable.
Users who already downloaded and applied the wallpaper before the takedown will keep working local copies — Wallper does not delete files from people’s Macs after the fact, except when removal is required by a valid copyright complaint.
